Staying Lean and Scrappy Amid Continued Layoffs and Funding Scarcity
Plus Employee sentiment, biotch jobseeker FAQs, and the News We're Following this week
Hey there!
Candidate and employee sentiment is low right now. I work with hundreds of candidates and biotech employees each week, and while fall is usually a time of renewed energy, that’s not what I’m currently seeing. Candidates are eager to understand what job security might look like in a new role, while those currently employed but exploring new opportunities say uncertainty about their current job security has motivated their preemptive job search.
When I really dig into the fears and uncertainties surrounding job security with these individuals, I learn that candidates and employees know that there is no such thing as absolute job security, but they hate feeling helpless. They want to feel aligned with the company's objectives so they can make a positive impact on the company's overall stability and viability, but they often don’t know or understand those objectives.
Candid goal-setting conversations can help. Sharing the next hurdle, whether a de-risking event, a funding milestone, or a need to streamline and trim costs in a particular area, empowers team members to focus on what truly matters. The added bonus is team cohesion and employees committed to finishing that goal rather than job hunting.
